Frequently Asked Questions

Starting therapy can feel daunting — and that’s completely normal.
To help ease any uncertainty, I’ve put together some commonly asked questions about how I work. I hope this offers some clarity and guidance as you consider taking the next step.

What happens in the first session?

Before we begin, we’ll have a free 30-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit for ongoing work. If we agree to continue, we’ll sign a working agreement and arrange your first session.

Your first session can be whatever you need it to be — some people dive right in, others take time to get a feel for the space and pace. We’ll gently begin to explore your history and what’s brought you to therapy. One of my colleagues once said the first six sessions are like sketching the outlines of a painting — over time, we fill it in with colour, depth, and understanding.

How long is a session?

Each session lasts a full 60 minutes.

What kind of therapy do you offer?

I’m trained in Core Process Psychotherapy — a mindfulness-based approach that blends Western psychotherapeutic understanding with Eastern wisdom. My work is relational, process-oriented, and tailored to each individual.

Do you work with trauma, neurodivergence or sexuality?

Yes — I work with all of these themes and more. My practice is grounded in welcoming you as you are. While I don’t specialise in neurodivergence, I have experience supporting neurodivergent clients and remain open and curious about each person’s unique experience. My practice is LGBTQ+ and trans-affirming. I also work with grief, trauma (including developmental and relational trauma), anxiety, and identity exploration.

How long will therapy take?

There’s no fixed timeline. Some people come for a few months to work through something specific, while others stay longer for deeper exploration and ongoing support.

We’ll regularly check in to make sure the work continues to feel meaningful and helpful. At times, therapy can feel quieter — like there’s less to say. That’s not a bad thing. Often, it means something is beginning to settle, integrate, or shift beneath the surface. These pauses can be just as important as the more active moments of insight or emotional release.

How do I book or cancel a session?

Do you offer reduced rates or sliding scale?

I offer a limited number of reduced-rate spaces for those on a low income. These are agreed at the start and reviewed every 6 weeks or if circumstances change.

Can I come to therapy even if I’m not in a crisis?

Absolutely. Therapy isn’t only for moments of crisis — many people come simply to better understand themselves, navigate life transitions, or explore patterns and emotions more deeply.

What if I feel overwhelmed or stuck?

That’s welcome here. Therapy can include uncertainty, numbness, or not knowing where to start. We’ll move gently, with grounding and care.

How often will we meet?

I see clients on weekly basis. Weekly therapy provides a consistent and steady rhythm, which helps build safety, trust, and momentum in the work. Meeting regularly allows us to stay closely connected to what’s unfolding in your experience — without losing touch between sessions. This continuity can be especially important when working with deeper themes like trauma, attachment, or emotional regulation.

The weekly frame offers a supportive container for reflection and integration, helping you move forward with more clarity and depth. It’s a pace that honours both the therapeutic process and your wellbeing.

What is Core Process Psychotherapy (CPP)?

Core Process Psychotherapy is a mindfulness-based therapeutic approach that combines Western psychotherapeutic theory with the wisdom of Buddhist psychology. At its heart is the belief that beneath our pain and conditioning, we each have access to a core of health, clarity, and compassion. By slowing down and bringing gentle awareness to your thoughts, feelings, and body, this approach helps uncover the deeper layers of your experience and supports healing from within.
